THE MUNICIPALITY – EAST MAMPRUSI

The East Mamprusi Municipal is one of the six MMDAs in the new North East Region with Gambaga as the Municipal capital. It is a historic town lying next to the seat of the Nayiri, King of Mamprugu, and also the first Headquarters of the Northern Territories.
It is one of the oldest districts in Northern Ghana. Out of it, the West Mamprusi District was carved in 1988. In 2004, the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo District was also created to promote developments.
It was elevated to Municipal status in 2018 by a Legislative Instrument (LI.2274). It therefore serves as the parent District for West Mamprusi, Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri and Yunyoo-Nasuan Districts.
The Municipality has 142 communities with 5 Zonal Councils (namely Nalerigu, Gambaga, Langbinsi, Sakogu and Gbintri).
The Municipal Assembly has 36 elected members, 15 Government appointees, 1 Member of Parliament (MP), and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) who is the executive and administrative head and assisted by the Municipal Co-ordinating Director and his technical team as the technocrats and advisers of the MCE.
Members of the Media, Ladies and Gentlemen, the Government of Nana Addo-Dankwa AkuffoAddo is determined to use ICT to deliver efficient, effective, and improve services to citizens, and the ongoing digitalization efforts are also geared towards formalizing the economy to support the Ghana Beyond Aid Agenda.
The East Mamprusi Municipal Assembly will continue to implement policies and through its departments provide adequate implementation oversight in the Municipality to ensure that expectations of stakeholders are met within the jurisdiction of the Assembly.
